چکیده

Abstract Background This study intends to investigate the immunological effects of tumor ablation with irreversible electroporation (IRE). Methods We evaluated systemic immune response in patients hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) after IRE treatment. Furthermore, we analyzed infiltrating T lymphocytes and level serum cytokines control groups tumor-bearing mice. Results observed that induced an increase WBC, neutrophil monocyte counts a decrease lymphocyte count 1 day post-IRE returned baseline values within 7 days patients. Meanwhile, circulating CD4 + cell subsets, but not CD8 , decreased post-IRE. The activated cells natural killer (NK) increased, regulatory (Treg) decreased. significant cytotoxic infiltration was on ablative tumors IFN-? also significantly increased group. Conclusions Our demonstrated upregulated downregulated Tregs peripheral blood results from animal model indicated could induce antitumor adaptive immunity dominated by into tumors, accompanied reduced Tregs.

Irreversible electroporation of hepatocellular carcinoma: patient selection and perspectives

Irreversible electroporation (IRE) is a novel form of tissue ablation that uses high-current electrical pulses to induce pore formation of the cell lipid bilayer, leading to cell death. The safety of IRE for ablation of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) has been established. Outcome data for ablation of HCC by IRE are limited, but early results are encouraging and suggest equivalency to the outcom...

The optimization of needle electrode number and placement for irreversible electroporation of hepatocellular carcinoma

BACKGROUND Irreversible electroporation (IRE) is a novel ablation tool that uses brief high-voltage pulses to treat cancer. The efficacy of the therapy depends upon the distribution of the electric field, which in turn depends upon the configuration of electrodes used. METHODS We sought to optimize the electrode configuration in terms of the distance between electrodes, the depth of electrode...

Irreversible Electroporation of a Hepatocellular Carcinoma Lesion Adjacent to a Transjugular Intrahepatic Portosystemic Shunt Stent Graft

We report in a 65-year-old man hepatocellular carcinoma adjacent to a transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt stent-graft which was successfully treated with irreversible electroporation (IRE). IRE is a new non-thermal tissue ablation technique which uses electrical pulses to induce cell necrosis by irreversible membrane poration. IRE proved to be more advantageous in the ablation of peri...

Irreversible electroporation therapy in the liver: longitudinal efficacy studies in a rat model of hepatocellular carcinoma.

Irreversible electroporation (IRE) is an innovative local-regional therapy that involves delivery of intense electrical pulses to tissue to induce nanoscale cell membrane defects for tissue ablation. The purpose of this study was to investigate the feasibility of using IRE as a liver-directed ablation technique for the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). In the N1-S1 rodent model, hepa...

The Safety and Efficacy of Irreversible Electroporation for Large Hepatocellular Carcinoma

This study aimed to investigate the safety and effectiveness of irreversible electroporation ablation for unresectable large liver cancer. Fourteen patients were enrolled: 8 with large hepatocellular carcinoma (tumor diameter: 5.1-11.5 cm) and 6 with medium hepatocellular carcinoma (tumor diameter: 3.0-4.1 cm). All patients received percutaneous irreversible electroporation ablation. Ablation t...
